Teams are an essential part of how we live out and implement our mission to make and mature disciples of Jesus. Further, building and nurturing effective teams is a core way in which we release people’s gifts, enable the diversity of the body, and help everyone to take their part in the building up of Christ’s church. Whether or not you’re soon to build a team, just starting out, or nurturing existing teams, this workshop provides a great opportunity to grow.

Module Overview

Teams are an essential part of how we live out and implement our mission to make and mature disciples of Jesus. Further, building and nurturing effective teams is a core way in which we release people’s gifts, enable the diversity of the body, and help everyone to take their part in the building up of Christ’s church. Whether or not you’re soon to build a team, just starting out, or nurturing existing teams, this workshop provides a great opportunity to grow.

Core Components in this Module

  1. Prework: There are some pre-workshop reflection questions + a leadership conversation podcast to listen to.
  2. Workshop: The workshop focuses on: (a) WHAT is a team; (b) HOW do teams function; (c) The LIFECYCLE of Building Teams.
  3. Homework: (a) Complete the Worksheet Assessment; (b) Share your action plan with your fellow leaders and team members.

PREWORK

To prepare for the workshop, please take the following two steps.

Step 1: Think about:

  1. What is the best team that you have been part of?
  2. What is the team that you’d like to focus on in this workshop? Pick one team (in the context of your leadership role St Bart’s) that you’re: (a) wanting to start; (b) has just begun; or (c) continuing to nurture.

Step 2: Listen to the Leadership.Local Conversation with Peter Stedman (it's only 20 minutes). You can also access it on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Google Podcasts. Peter is Senior Minister of Norwest Anglican.

Here are four key takeaways from the conversation:

  1. Teams leverage giftedness; teams offset lack of ability; teams sharpen one another (in the vision and task); teams have the ability to disciple one another.
  2. 6C's of healthy teams: Character, Conviction, Competency, Chemistry (relational, situational, theological), Capacity, and Clarity.
  3. Teams help create a shift: moving people from doing a job to playing their role in God's Kingdom.
  4. It's essential—for true Gospel effectiveness—for team leaders to be humble and be inspiring (pointing to the Gospel and communicating how we get from 'here' to 'there').
