Forming Great Habits is an essential skill of discipleship and leadership. If you’ve had an opportunity to develop a discipleship or leadership plan, it will almost inevitably include some element of habit-forming or habit-breaking. The Bible is full of examples of good habits for us to take up and bad habits for us to take off. It’s important for us as disciples and Christian leaders to recognise that minuscule habits can result in life-altering outcomes. This workshop focuses on the why and how of Forming Great Habits.

Module Overview

Forming Great Habits is an essential skill of discipleship and leadership. If you’ve had an opportunity to develop a discipleship or leadership plan, it will almost inevitably include some element of habit-forming or habit-breaking. The Bible is full of examples of good habits for us to take up and bad habits for us to take off. It’s important for us as disciples and Christian leaders to recognise that minuscule habits can result in life-altering outcomes. This workshop focuses on the why and how of Forming Great Habits.

Core Components in this Module

  1. Prework: There are some pre-workshop reflection questions.
  2. Workshop: The workshop focuses on: (a) WHY habits are important; (b) HOW habits are formed; (c) DEVELOPING a habit for yourself.
  3. Homework: Refine and test a habit you're trying to cultivate or break.

Also in this Module

  • Going Deeper: If you would like to go deeper on this topic, some additional resources are provided.
  • Feedback: To complete the feedback survey, visit the survey at the end of the module.

PREPARATION FOR THE MODULE

To prepare for the workshop, please think about the following questions:

  1. As a leader, what’s ONE helpful habit that you’re currently trying (or have had challenge) to cultivate? (e.g., reading the Bible each day, arriving to meetings on time, resting more); OR
  2. As a leader, what’s ONE less-than-helpful habit that you’re trying to break? (e.g., using your device too much, doing it yourself instead of delegating, sending occasionally cross emails).

  3. An explanation of how habits form

  • Apply: test the habit out before the next module.
