What does it look like to remain faithful no matter the circumstance? Split roughly into two halves, chapters 1 to 6 focus on the faithfulness of Daniel and his friends even amidst grave danger in Babylonian exile. By trusting in the Lord, these servants not only point to the faithfulness of God but also the power of countercultural witness. Daniel demonstrates what it looks like to live patiently in a world that has rejected God by fixing our hope on the one - the Son of Man - who will rescue and restore the world. Daniel shows us what it looks like to live faithfully in a foreign land.
Whilst not the focus of this series, the second half of Daniel (chapters 7-12) focuses on three of Daniel’s dreams packed full of prophetic vision for the future. In particular, these dreams point to a future when God will rescue his people out of (ultimate) exile through the Son of Man - God’s true King. The book contrasts the evil of humanity when God’s rule is rejected and the future glory when all things are brought under the authority of the Lord.
