People are baptised in response to Jesus’ commission to go and make disciples of Jesus and as a public declaration of a person’s trust in Jesus as Lord and Saviour. Baptism involves a turning from sin, a commitment to following Jesus, a declaration of faith (i.e., Apostles’ Creed), and an invitation for the church to support the person as a disciple. The main symbol of baptism (water!) points to a dying of sin (through Christ’s death) and a rising to life (made possible through Jesus’ resurrection). If you have never been baptised and would like to know more please let us know. We’d love to help and answer questions you might have. For those already baptised, you could consider confirmation or reaffirmation of baptism vows.
