Small group questions

Connect What is one thing you can do this week to instil a greater sense of wonder about Jesus’ resurrection? How might this be reflected more-and-more in praise and proclamation of the Good News that Jesus is King?

Warm-Up

  1. How relevant is the news of the resurrection of Jesus in your day-to-day life? Where does it feature strongly and where is it absent? 
  2. Who is someone you know whose life has been radically changed by Jesus? What was the change?

Read Matthew 28:16-18

  1. Why did the disciples go to Galilee? Who else told the disciples that’s where they should go?
  2. How did the disciples respond to seeing Jesus? Why might the doubt/hesitation be understandable?
  3. Have you ever felt like you’ve let Jesus down? How can this scene be encouraging for us?
  4. What is the basis of the Great Commission? How extensive is Jesus’ authority?
  5. Have you ever uprooted your life, moved somewhere else, for something or someone? What was it?
  6. How does Jesus have more authority than that circumstance? Why can we often forget his authority?
  7. How can Jesus’ authority be of comfort and assurance? 

Read Matthew 28:18-20

  1. Identify all the verbs in verses 18-20. Which is the main verb? 
  2. What is a disciple? 
  3. How did Jesus make disciples? What did the disciples (all of them, not just the 12) have in common?
  4. Who is included in becoming a disciple of Jesus? Who on your frontline is from a different nation?
  5. How are disciples to be made? How long does it take to make disciples? 
  6. Who is called to make disciples? How does the commission to the disciples apply to us and St Bart’s?
  7. How is the Great Commission relevant to the whole church, and not just a few?
  8. Who was significant in helping you come to faith? Who has been involved in discipling you?
  9. How long does Jesus promise to be with us? 
  10. When has Jesus’ presence been a comfort to you?
  11. What situations are you tempted to forget Jesus is with you? How can you remember his presence each day, and in every place?
  12. Who are the people God has placed on your frontline that are not-yet followers of Jesus? How can the group best be praying for them and for you?

Apply What is one way you can be intentional in making disciples on your frontlines?

Prayer
Gracious Father, may your Spirit and Word equip us and help us to go where our Lord Jesus sends us. Help us to grow in awareness of your presence, and use us to make disciples of all nations, for your glory. Amen.
