Questions and going deeper resources

Small group questions

CONNECT:  Think about the person you are praying for to become a follower of Jesus. How can you share the hope of the Gospel with them this week?

WARM-UP  Question

  1. Can you remember a time in which you felt particularly anxious? What helped you in that situation?
  2. What are the things in life that cause you most to worry? Has that changed in recent times?

READ Luke 12:22-26

  1. Do you find the command of Jesus to ‘not worry’ as challenging? Why or why not?
  2. What it so remarkable about God caring for the ravens? How much more are we valued by God?
What does it mean to you to know that you are valued by God in such an extraordinary way?
  3. What does Jesus mean by saying that worry doesn’t add a single hour to our life? Why is it actually healthy for us to recognise our own limitations as people?
  4. If worry is so futile, why are we so good at being ‘worry machines’?

READ Luke 12:27-31

  1. How does considering the ‘wild flowers’ (and the grass of the field) point to God’s extraordinary provision? How do you see the provision of God at work in the world? How about in your own life?
  2. If God ultimately provides for us, does that mean that we should do nothing and just sit back and relax?
  3. When you think back through the Old Testament, how did God provide for his people? What does it mean to ‘consider’ such evidence of God’s faithfulness?
  4. How has God ultimately provided for us in Jesus? How should this change our perspective on things?
  5. Do you think that sometimes your worry is actually a form of not trusting in God’s goodness?
  6. If God both knows our need and provides, does that mean that we get everything that we want?
  7. Is there a time in your life in which God’s provision has been particularly evident to you?
  8. According to Jesus, what should we not set our hearts on? What then does God desire for us to have our hearts set on?
  9. What does it look like practically to set our hearts on the things that matter to God?
  10. What is one area of worry this week that you would like to bring before God? How can you support one another in bringing such worries to God?

APPLY:  Is there an area of your life in which you doubt God’s provision? What would be helpful in helping you to trust God more in this area?

Prayer
Gracious Father, thank you that we have no cause to worry because of you. Please help us to consider your faithfulness and recognise your goodness. Please help us to see the way you value us along with the futility of trying to control things which we cannot. We thank you Lord, ultimately, for the way in which you have provided through your Son. Please help us to set our hearts on your Kingdom. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
