CONNECT: Write a prayer to thank God for revealing himself in Jesus, detailing all of the phenomenal ways that come to mind in which Jesus is great.

WARM-UP  Question

  1. Do you have any siblings? What is the significance of Jesus also being our brother?

READ Hebrews 2:5-9

  1. Do you ever feel like that you don’t matter? Why do you think that could be?
  2. According to these verses (particularly verses 6-8) how is it evident that God cares for us? What does it mean to you to know that you matter and are an image bearer of God?
  3. In what way is it true that Jesus became fully human? What is the significance of this?
  4. To what extent, and in which domains, has God given rule to Jesus? How is Jesus’ rule evident in your life from day-to-day? How would you like it to be?
  5. We know that Jesus suffered death on the cross. What is meant by Jesus ‘tasting’ death for everyone?

READ Hebrews 2:10-18

  1. Does the news that Jesus has brought ‘many sons and daughters to glory’ mean that we should be the object of worship and praise? What does this phrase actually mean?
  2. What is the significance to you that Jesus is the pioneer of salvation? How was this made possible?
  3. How does God make us holy? How do you think holiness should be demonstrated in our lives?
  4. Is there any particular area of your life in which you really struggle with holiness? If comfortable, feel free to share it with the group.
  5. When we become Christians, who now are our brothers and sisters? What are the blessings of belonging to this family?
  6. Have you ever been shamed for following Jesus? Have you ever felt ashamed for following him?
  7. What encouragement is it to you to know that Jesus is never ashamed of us?
  8. How can we be certain that Jesus has definitely defeated death? What does that mean for you?

APPLY: As you go about your week, arriving at your various front lines, take a moment to be reminded of the amazing news that Jesus is your brother!

Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you that Jesus became fully human and would become our brother! Thank you that because Jesus tasted death that we can be certain that death has been defeated! Please help us to grow in our understanding of this reality, that we might rejoice in you and be transformed in your likeness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
