- Think about a teacher who has made a major impact on you. Share with the group.
- When you are sad, or tired, or discouraged, what do you turn to for refreshment?

- If you could have dinner with five people from history, who would you chose? Share your reasons.
- Why was Martha the one to invite Jesus to the home she shared with Mary and Lazarus?
- Why did Martha invite Jesus to her home? What might her motivation have been?
- How do we welcome Jesus into our lives? What are the parts of your life when you are most tempted to exclude Jesus?

- Where was Mary and what was she doing? Why was this surprising?
- Why is it important for disciples to listen to their teacher(s)?
- What are some of the ways you sit at the feet of Jesus and listen to him? What could be some simple ways to punctuate your day more regularly with opportunities to listen to Jesus?
- What are some of the barriers to listening to Jesus? What questions could we ask of one another to encourage each other in our relationship with God?

- Why is Martha so frustrated? How did Jesus respond to her call for help?
- Do you think you’re ever in danger of focusing more on ‘task’ than actual relationship with God? What is most helpful in not neglecting your relationship with God?

- How does being too busy pull us away from listening to Jesus?
- Can our church ministry be a barrier to listening to Jesus?
- What should be our first priority? How do we keep Jesus’ teaching?
APPLY: How will you listen to Jesus this week?
Prayer
Lord God, help us to trust in Jesus as Lord and Saviour. Help us to welcome him into our lives, and give us open hearts and minds to receive his teaching. Help us to put aside anything that would pull us away from hearing Jesus. Help us to sit at Jesus’ Feet and listen to all he wants us to hear. Amen.
