With an election looming, the Rev’d Dr John Dickson recently published an article on “Eternity News” with some helpful thoughts as we discern what it means to vote in line with the Gospel. Instead of recommending particular parties or policies, John offers some helpful guidelines.
Sincere thank you to everyone involved in our Easter services who prayed, served, and joined us across the weekend. Over the course of a few days, we welcomed over 1200 people to St Bart’s and Picnic Point. There was such joy in journeyed through Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Day, as we were reminded of God’s great love fo rate world poured out through his son on the cross. We also rejoiced that just as Jesus has risen, all to who trust in him will be raised forever! There also have been some fantastic contacts made and some fantastic conversations about Jesus. Please be praying that the Gospel seeds planted may take root in people’s lives.
With great thanks to God, Zoë and David (along with Micah) welcomer Jude Andrew Browne into the world on Thursday. The family are doing really well and praising God for the great gift of Jude. It was great this week to read an article on the ABC about the Lean’s recent move to PNG. The article, “Doctor relocates young family from Toowoomba to work in PNG hospital as an expression of faith” is such an encouragement, particularly as we partner in mission with the family. You can read the article here.
Introducing Jesus is a short, four-week course (1hr sessions) that can be completed in a small group or one-on-one. Looking at one of the Gospels (i.e., the early accounts of Jesus) we examine Jesus’ life, death, message, and invitation. There’s no pressure and you’re welcome to ask whatever questions that you would like to! If you’re not sure what you think of Jesus, then this could be a great option to explore. To register your interest, simply complete the form.
First Samuel tells the dramatic story of Israel’s desire for an earthly king to rule over them. Despite God’s warning that such a king would fall short, God relents and King Saul rules with disastrous consequences. A faithful king is on the rise, however it’s only by coming to God in humility and obedience that their - and our - greatest hopes can be fulfilled. Series starts May 5, 2019.
As we looked at the amazing encounter between the Ethiopian and the eunuch in Acts 8 last week, we were challenged to be prepared to be able to give an answer for the hope that we have, in the great hope that we too will be asked questions about what we believe. Being ‘prepared’ can seem intimidating, but here are four simple ideas to get started.
Pray for safety as Daniel travels and proclaims the Gospel. Pray that the orphanage project will grow in strength and reach many children. Pray for peace in South Sudan and for a raising up of a new generation of leaders. Pray also for Daniel’s family back home in Australia, especially for God’s provision and wisdom in every regard

Lord our God, help us to remember those who live in isolated and remote parts of our land. We ask you to strengthen and encourage all whose ministries are supported by The Bush Church Aid Society. Refresh them in times of discouragement and loneliness and call others to stand with them in the task of making Christ known. Grant that, through the ministry of the Word and Sacraments, through caring service and by support for young people, the message of your redeeming love may be proclaimed and accepted by the people of our land. We ask these things through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
On Thursday we joined together in giving great thanks to God for the life of Dot Edwards who went home to be with her Lord the previous week. Dot was an incredible women - some 98 years old - of faith. Some may remember that Dot was one of three (along with Vi and Bob) featured in a pair of videos in 2014 on faithful witnesses. If you missed them, they are a must watch!
