Next Saturday, eleven students and one lecturer from the Brisbane School of Theology will be arriving to partner with St Bart’s for a week. They will be involved in a whole variety of ministries. Throughout the week, there will be three great events that I want to highlight.
Our rosters for August and September (for 7.30AM, 9.30AM, and 6PM) are now available. You can download them from our website (also below) located under 'services', or if you would prefer, pick up a printed copy from Church. Thankful to God for the phenomenal servant hearts of so many people and their desire to serve God in the making and maturing of disciples.
Parenting is often described as one of the hardest jobs one might ever undertake. Not long after having a newborn, many parents discover that the ‘textbooks’ often fail in preparing you adequately for this role. On top of wanting to provide the best physical, emotional, and psychological home for our children, we must not overlook the importance of nurturing the spiritual life of our children.
At home, work, study, over a meal with friends or at the playground, is there someone you would love to introduce to Jesus? It can seem super daunting to bring up faith and coming along to church can seem like a massive leap. The upcoming Public Lecture on Friday 2 August at 7PM is a simple, accessible and deeply engaging event to invite anyone along to. There is a Q&A time, where you can anonymously text in questions, and hot chocolate afterwards.
A great way to invest in our knowledge and understanding of God’s word is through the Ridley Certificate! Hosted on a Tuesday night or in micro-groups throughout the week for six weeks, the Ridley Certificate consists of a number of subjects offered every term here at St Bart’s. These nights are very relaxed and informal. The course material is shown through a video from a lecturer who is an expert in their field. Then, the lecture is discussed in the group.
On the July 28, come and hear how to disciple your kids with intentionality. We will talk about how to develop daily habits that match the rhythms of busy family life; the importance of regular discipleship within a community; and the role a parent/guardian plays in modelling strong discipleship practices in their own life.
Next Sunday we will start a new three-week Winter Warmer Series on REST. There will be hot food between our morning services each week and at 6PM as we explore this amazing gift and and commandment.. So come along (7.30AM, 9.30AM, and 6PM) as we warm up and seek to grow in God’s gift of rest+God, rest+work, and rest+eternity.
Our rosters for June and July (for 7.30AM, 9.30AM, and 6PM) are now available. You can download them from our website (also below) located under 'services', or if you would prefer, pick up a printed copy from Church this Sunday. Thankful to God for the phenomenal servant hearts of so many people and their desire to serve God in the making and maturing of disciples.
On June 13, we’ll be hosting the first of a series of frontline breakfasts to help encourage people as they seek to serve Jesus through their work. With that in mind, on June 13 (6-7.30AM) we’re inviting medical and allied health professionals to join us for our first frontline breakfast with keynote by George Savvides (former CEO of Medibank).
On the 2nd Wednesday and 3rd Tuesday of every month, St Bart’s Care is looking for a musician to accompany songs at various local aged care home services. These short services are amazing opportunities to encourage older people in their relationship with God and to share the good news of Jesus with them. If you are interested, please contact Suzie Ross at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Marriage Course is a fantastic seven week course for married couples who want to be growing in their marriage. Each night consists of a two-course meal, a practical video, and (private) time for discussion as a couple (there’s no group work!). Topics are practical and the course comes from Holy Trinity Brompton (in London) - the same church as Alpha.
I’m very excited to announce today that we (pending a licence from the Archbishop) have appointed Holly Adamson as an additional intern to minister specifically within the Children, Youth, and Families department, focusing on Friday Kids Club. Holly serves in a variety of ways at church and has a background in early childhood, more recently working as a nanny. This was a role that we had budgeted for 2019 to help support growth, so the timing is opportune in order to provide further support. Please be praying for Holly as she begins this one day/week role. You can also listen the interview on our website.
First Samuel tells the dramatic story of Israel’s desire for an earthly king to rule over them. Despite God’s warning that such a king would fall short, God relents and King Saul rules with disastrous consequences. A faithful king is on the rise, however it’s only by coming to God in humility and obedience that their - and our - greatest hopes can be fulfilled. Series starts May 5, 2019.
At St Bart’s, our mission is to be making and maturing of disciples of Jesus for God’s glory. That means that we love to see people come to know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour, along with continuing to mature in that relationship for their entire lives. With that in mind, we are inviting adults, who have never been baptised, to do so across our three services on April 28.
