CHARGE on Friday night is finished for another term at St Bart’s! It has been so amazing to see the youth bringing their friends and to see them really grow in their faith. It was fantastic to see the youth learn about the different genre’s and books of the bible, and how they all fit into God’s redemptive plan for us. We also had our annual CHARGE’s got talent, girls and guys night and the FOCUS weekend away in Coolum. Next term, we are doing the for the love of God series, where the youth have selected various topics that they want to explore about Christianity. All high schoolers from grade 7-12 are welcome, so please invite anyone who you think would be interested in coming along on Friday nights from 6:30-9pm at St Bart’s!
We of course pray in many ways, but one of the special ways that we do so is together each term at our prayer nights. This year, we’ve been running these prayer nights a little differently, starting with a meal. After the meal, we have a focused one hour of worship and prayer, with interactive stations with various focus areas. These nights have been designed to be intergenerational and flexible. You can pray by yourself, in a small group, with no pressure at all to pray out loud. The evening meal will be at 5:30PM at a small cost of $5, with prayer starting at 6.30PM and finishing by 7.30PM sharp. We would love to see you there!
If you’re interested in coming along to the FOCUS weekend, I’d really encourage you to get your registration in early. With over 60 people already registered, we’ll soon need to decide if we book more of the accommodation facilities available at Luther Heights. You can register there or on our website today.
RE/QUIP is our annual young adults conference for people in their 20s and 30s. The keynotes, workshops, and Q&A sessions focus on proclaim, work, and serve. In 2019, our guest speakers were the Rev’d Dr Tim Foster (Vice Principal of Ridley College, Melbourne), Sharon Cheung (Women and Young Adults Coordinator for the City Bible Forum, Melbourne), Chrissy Ellis (Reconciliation Action Plan Coordinator for the Anglican Church Southern Queensland), and Rian Roux (of RZIM).
From Friday May 31 – Sunday June 2, we’ll be heading to Coolum Beach for our FOCUS Weekend Away. We have some amazing plans for the weekend and I’m really excited to share that the Rev’d Dr Graham Stanton (Lecturer in Practical Theology and Dean of the Centre for Children’s and Youth Ministry at Ridley College, Melbourne) will be joining us as our guest speaker for our two Saturday morning sessions (there will also be a concurrent children’s program Saturday morning):
Registrations are closing soon! RE/QUIP 2019 has almost arrived and will be kicking off next Friday night with a great line-up of speakers (including Tim Foster from Ridley College). RE/QUIP is a two-day conference for people in their 20s and 30s focussing on work, evangelism, and service. Now in its third year, this unique conference aims to engage, mobilise and equip young Christian workers
From Friday May 31 to Sunday June 2, we’ll be heading to Coolum Beach for our first ever FOCUS Weekend Away. Join us for what will be an amazing weekend away to focus on God, grow as disciple makers (of all ages), and have fun at the beach. We’ve got lots of great things planned including worship, helpful talks, lots of free time, and special meals. Some of the optional activities also include an incredible flying fox, a water park, cycling, walking, and plenty of other quieter things too.
This morning it was a great joy to commission our St Bart's KIDS and CHARGE Teams (which includes St Bart's Kids Sundays, CHARGE Youth, Kids Club, mainly music, expecting families, RI, and baptisms)! We also heard from some of our kids, youth, and team about what they love and why they're involved (see video below). Thank you to everyone who serves in this way, seeking to make and mature the younger disciples in our church. Please pray for the teams, along with our staff responsible for these departments (Bettrys Lowe & Amy Norman: Children & Families; Peter Dutton: Youth and Young Adults).
At St Bart’s, we’re focused together in the making and maturing of disciples of Jesus for God’s glory. That means that we love to see people come to know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour, along with continuing to mature in that relationship for their entire lives. Baptism and Confirmation are important public expressions of our trust in Jesus. Whilst we can of course baptise at any time, we will be celebrating with special services on December 2, followed by an opportunity for Confirmation on December 16.
Congratulations to Fraser and Anne (formerly of 6PM before moving away) who were married on Saturday at St Andrew’s South Brisbane. Please give thanks to the Lord for their trust in the Lord, the gift of marriage, and their desire to glorify God in their life together.
Massive congratulation to Toby and Steph who were married yesterday at St Bart’s (members of our 6PM congregation). Please be praying for Toby and Steph as they begin married life together, particularly that Jesus will at the heart of their relationship and that God will be greatly glorified through them. Please also pray that they will have a wonderful time away.
Last weekend, 37 Campers headed to Lake Moogerah for the annual CHARGE youth camp. The youth learnt of God’s unfailing love through the parables of Luke. We had an amazing time canoeing, swimming, campfire, playing sport, board games and so much more! It was fantastic to see the group grow in relationship with each other and with God over the weekend.
The CHARGE youth camp is coming soon! This year we are heading to Lake Moogerah from October 19-21. It will be an amazing weekend of activities, fun and hanging out with friends in a spectacular setting. Cost for the weekend is $90 with everything included. Forms and payment are due by October 12. All grade 6-12's are welcome.
Today we begin our new series on ‘Winter Warmers’ exploring four very rare fruit: kindness, peace, patience, and self-control. We'll be opening up the Bible to explore what it looks like to be fruitful in godly ways as we seek follow Jesus. But we don't just want to explore - we want to put these fruit into practice! Therefore, throughout the series, we're aiming to collectively demonstrate at least 1000 acts of kindness in our city.
