The Western Lay Conference took place at St Bart's this weekend (August 10-11), playing host to Anglicans from across the Western Region.
Over 60 lay people from churches as far from Toowoomba as Mitchell and Roma came together for two days of prayer, teaching, and thinking about the next steps we can take as members of the Body of Christ in Queensland. The conference was the initiative of our Bishop Cameron Venables and has served for the last two years to bring laypeople from across out region to share ideas about how we can work together to build up the Anglican Church and make disciples in our respective regions. With a mixture of worship sessions, keynote talks, and elective sessions the delegates shared ideas, imagined new possibilities, and thought deeply about prayer, evangelism, service, and how we can branch out into our respective communities.
Many thanks must go to all the parishes who sent people to be a part of this conference as well as the many St Bart's people who worked alongside our sisters and brothers in Christ from across the Western Region to make this conference a success. A big 'THANK YOU!!' must go to those who served food, set up, packed away, lead elective sessions, and opened their home by billeting conference delegates.
No doubt this Conference will have an impact on the parishes represented as we all work together to take next steps in our faith and branch out with the Good News of Jesus Christ in our communities.
