Prayers from 9.30AM Service

Some people have asked to share the prayers from our 9.30AM service this morning so that we continue to pray for some of the needs in the world currently. With thanks to Kate Venables. Gracious God, We pray this morning for the more than 20 million people who are starving right now in your world.  We ask you to send your blessing on them as they are desperately seeking the most basic nourishment in Yemen, South Sudan, Somalia and northeast Nigeria. We pray that you will move us to global action so that your people will not simply starve to death.  May your spirit of comfort be with those towns and villages whose adults are now too weak to walk and whose communities have lost all their toddlers.  We pray for those countries experiencing political strife and turmoil, and ask your particular blessing on those in South Korea in the midst of presidential change, for all those in North Korea living under the tyrannical rule of Kim Jong-un and for ongoing crisis in Syria, Iraq and Lebanon. We give you thanks and praise for the gift of your Son sent to connect us to the Kingdom and ask that you give us Kingdom strength and imagination to find new and generous ways to serve those in need from our position of plenty so that all are cared for and supported.

Gracious God, We pray for our nation of Australia and thank you for all the freedoms and blessings we experience here, especially the freedom to worship you without fear of imprisonment and torture.  Having celebrated International Women’s Day last week, we thank you for all amazing female models in our lives, for those who guide and mentor us, for those who inspire us and for those who touch our hearts.  And we remember all those women in countries and communities who are disempowered, used as bargaining chips and live in fear for their lives.

We pray for all those in our nation who are dealing with the impact of extreme weather situations and ask that you send your life-giving rain to all those who are struggling with the ravages of drought.  We ask your blessing on those asylum seekers who are desperately trying to sort their status with the federal government’s new 60 day policy and ask that the documents they are seeking in their former nations are able to be found and delivered in within the timeline.  We pray that our political leaders will hear your voice of goodness and resist discrimination and self-interest. We pray for our first peoples as their communities struggle to live lives that are meaningful and forward facing.  We pray that your Spirit rise among them and give them renewed purpose, living in ways that You dream for them. We thank you for the example of Jesus and the life he lived – we pray that we can walk in his ways, as we ponder our own responsibilities for what happens to others in our nation.

Gracious God, We pray for our city of Toowoomba and for the leaders of our town, in government, business and social services. Send your spirit of wisdom and mercy so that they are able to face the causes of the suffering and act accordingly. We pray for our family of St Barts and praise and thank you for the amazing growth we are part of. We give you thanks and praise for the smooth construction of Stage 2 and for enormous privilege to be building something for your glory.  We ask your blessing on all those involved in the work and pray your protection on them. Give us the courage to be a true witness of you as the cornerstone in our lives and we thank you that you are the real owner of our lives and that we can hand everything over to you.

Gracious God, We pray for those on our prayer list and for those in our hearts and ask for their healing from every disease and sickness.  Be with those who are struggling with dementia and have compassion for them, guiding them, their families and medical teams to find cures, relief from the worst of the symptoms and a deep sense of your love. We pray that you will be with all those who care for and work with the most needy of your people: the lost, the least and the lonely…
