Do people universally have a fear of others who are different – refugees, mentally Ill, indigenous etc? “What does this mean for how we live and share together in our local neighbourhoods and how does this fear impact on our thinking and acting towards others around the world?” asks Greg Dawson. Perhaps a timely event in the wake of the Toowoomba Mosque fire, Toowoomba TEAR group (of which a significant number are from the St Bart's family) are hosting a free event to explore this topic. Community worker and State Team Coordinator for TEAR Australia, Greg Dawson, will look at what happens when “fear takes over” at a local, national and global level and what actionable steps can be taken to move beyond fear towards hope and connection. Greg will share stories from the context on the world’s newest nations, South Sudan, as well as drawing on local stories.
